But my experience leaving the company was very much the same -- AOL alums are everywhere (particularly in the DC area). It's almost like a college: "Oh, you were in the layoff class of '98? I was in the layoff class of '07." <br /><br />But yeah, Layoff Day was important for a couple of years, and then you just kind of let it go. I wrote a little bit about mine at the <a href="http://whatever.scalzi.com/2008/03/10/ten-years-ago-today/" rel="nofollow">ten year anniversary</a> but haven't thought about it much since.<br /><br />Hope your layoff was as good for you as it was for me. Seriously, it turned out to be one of the best things that ever happened to me. Didn't seem so at the particular moment, mind you.
